StimULI Breakfast: LA 2024

The International Olympic Committee is scheduled to announce the host city for the 2024 Olympics in September 2017 — Los Angeles and Paris are the final-round contenders. The LA 2024 Bid Committee has developed a remarkable plan based on utilizing existing and already- planned facilities and infrastructure to deliver an Olympic Games centered on sustainability and fiscal responsibility.

The concept for the Games is to involve, engage and bring together the entire Greater Los Angeles region, and indeed the venues map reaches from San Fernando Valley in the north to Long Beach in the south, Santa Monica on the west and all the way east to Lake Perris. In the center are the Downtown Sports Park, LA Stadium at Hollywood Park and the Athletes Village at UCLA.

Join us for an incredible opportunity to hear from some of the leaders who have been working tirelessly to bring the 2024 Olympics to Los Angeles. They will share with us their vision and concept for the Games and talk about the ideas and plans to utilize, reinvent and reimagine the facilities and venues to deliver a truly world-class event.

Women's Design Salon

The verynice Women’s Design Salon is an intimate series that empowers our local creative community of women by bringing them together, along with outside experts, to discuss real issues, current events, and new ideas. While the series is focused on empowering women, all are welcome to attend and contribute. In this spirit of collaboration, verynice is excited to be a part of the LA Design Festival this year!

During this event we’ll have a discussion with our panel of community experts and then break out into groups to put our heads together. What makes up a “body of work”? What defines a creative person? How do you catalyze change and embrace transition? And of course, how does being a woman affect your career? Let’s see what we can learn from different perspectives on success and creativity.

The event will be moderated by Alisa Olinova & Clarisa Valdez from verynice.

Field Team for Women Build, Habitat for Humanity

Join the AIA|LA Team for Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Project
Support Values that are Core to Our Chapter

AIA|LA is organizing a team of women to work together for San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build.

Participating members will collaborate at the job site to build shelter and generate community on Friday, May 12. (Part of Habitat for Humanity’s three days of construction at the Desiderio development in Pasadena.)

The idea of chapter representation for the event was Past-President Debra Gerod’s, with 2017 Vice-President /President Elect Tania Van Herle, AIA Boardmember Carissa Oyedele and WiA Past Chair, Patricia Rhee, AIA, rapidly committing to take part. Do join them.

Whether you are a Architect member, Associate, Boardmember, or part of the chapter’s thriving committee culture, we invite you to participate in this event that provides housing to families in need.

Team members will support the project financially ($100 contribution per person - find out more here) and work together on site. Team limit 30. SO—jump on it.

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Its Women Build program provides a female-friendly work site that empowers women to take leadership roles and learn new skills while building a home with a hard-working family. Women Build is supported by diverse groups of women — professionals, students, congregations, management teams, community leaders, book clubs, garden clubs, friends, and neighbors — who join together to raise funds and build.
