The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated education inequities in Los Angeles and throughout the whole country. We hope these resources are useful for parents seeking to ensure that their children do not fall behind academically. While access to teachers is limited, we believe such a variety of free tutoring resources can help fill the gap.

TUTORING ORGANIZATIONS

StudySmart Youth Services

A free online tutoring resource for K-8 students, provided by high school students.

Fall 2020 sessions are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week at 4-5pm PST.

Tutor Together

Through one-on-one online tutoring sessions, Tutor Together provides free tutoring for students from Kindergarten through eighth grade.

Wave learning festival

A student-run educational platform founded by undergraduates from universities like Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania, to address the educational inequities exacerbated by COVID-19. Offers nontraditional seminars, curricular tutoring services, and hosts speaker events.

Peer 2 Peer Tutors

Started by Tucson, Arizona high school juniors to help high school students who were missing school because of health reasons. Has since expanded from Arizona to five other states, including a branch in Granite Bay that serves all of California.

Step up tutoring

A startup assisted by the Los Angeles Unified School District which offers free one-on-one tutoring. Currently only serves the communities of Huntington Park, Fremont and Taft.

Enrichment tutoring academy

An academic enrichment program of the Southeast Community Foundation, which provides free tutoring in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics for all youth, grades K-12.
