Arroyo Seco Tributary of the Los Angeles River

Senator Anthony J. Portantino, who represents Pasadena in the California Senate, has introduced legislation that would include the Arroyo Seco Tributary in the Upper Los Angeles River and Tributaries Working Group plan – a revitalization plan to address the unique and diverse needs of the Upper Los Angeles River, the tributaries of the Pacoima Wash, Tujunga Wash, and Verdugo Wash, and the communities through which they pass.

The working group, created by state legislation last year, has until March 1, 2019 to come up with the plan. It did not initially include the Arroyo Seco tributary, triggering concerns from many environmental activists.

With Portantino’s bill, introduced Tuesday, the Arroyo Seco Tributary would now be included in the working group and watershed education revitalization plan.

“As the representative of the 25th District, I am happy to help solve a problem raised by constituents and to underscore how important the Arroyo Seco Tributary is to the greater watershed,” Portantino said. “This measure is not only important to our district but to the environmental well-being of the region. Through this legislation I want to make sure the tributary is included and all of my communities are well-represented in the process as we move forward.”

Sen. Portantino represents nearly 930,000 people in the 25th Senate District, which includes Pasadena, Altadena, Glendale, La Cañada Flintridge, San Marino, Sierra Madre, and South Pasadena.
