Cultural Olympiad – A tale of two cities Paris and Los Angeles

Date & Time Apr 25, 2023 09:00 in Pacific Time (US and Canada)

Description

When the torch is lit in Paris’ Olympic stadium next year, the eyes of the world will be cast on the city, its citizens and its culture. Los Angeles is watching closely, preparing for the 2028 Olympics.

This online event brings together Paris and Los Angeles civic leaders alongside former Olympics hosts London, Tokyo and Sydney to debate how culture engages citizens before, during and after the Games and how major events can shape a city’s identity and their appeal on a global stage.

Hosted by World Cities Culture Forum in collaboration with Los Angeles County and City and Ville de Paris, and moderated by Kate Levin, Principal at Bloomberg Associates, a panel of city leaders will reflect on their vision and aspirations for the 2024 and 2028 Cultural Olympiads. The event is part of the World Cities Culture Forum Leadership Exchange Programme supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies where cities share their best ideas for supporting culture.

Panel and Insights from:

▪ Estelle Sicard, Deputy Director of Cultural Affairs Department (Paris)

▪ Daniel Tarica, General Manager of Department of Cultural Affairs (Los Angeles City)

▪ Kristin Sakoda, Director of Arts & Culture (Los Angeles County)
