Meet and Greet with LA County Regional Planning Director Amy Bodek

  • Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP 333 South Grand Avenue Los Angeles, CA, 90071 United States (map)

The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning (DRP) performs all land use planning functions for the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County (these unincorporated areas have more than one million residents).  DRP’s services include long range planning, land development counseling, project/case intake and processing, environmental review, and zoning enforcement.

On February 1, 2018, Amy Bodek was sworn in as the new Director of DRP; she is the first woman to hold this role.  On Ms. Bodek’s plate as Director are critical challenges facing the County, including homelessness.  Under Ms. Bodek’s leadership, on May 22, 2018, the County Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance allowing homeowners to build or convert existing spaces into Accessory Dwelling Units, sometimes referred to as “granny flats.”  Ms. Bodek noted that only through such collaborative and creative solutions will the County be able to make a dent in addressing housing affordability issues.

Ms. Bodek is also responsible for implementing the policies in the LA County 2035 General Plan, which was adopted by the LA County Board of Supervisors in 2015.  This Plan includes significant changes to how the hillside, rural and coastal areas of the County will be developed in the future and recognizes that new housing and job creation will be necessary as County population grows.

To hear about the Ms. Bodek’s unique perspective on the challenges facing the County and her outlook for the future, ULI will be holding this event in a unique space: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP’s new offices in downtown Los Angeles.
