Through the proliferation of social media, virtual avatars, sensory simulations, VR and holograms, we now have the ability to simulate experiences with precision and without relying on the physical presence of a subject. As the environments we occupy become exceedingly virtual and mobile, traditional notions of architectural discourse and experience are challenged. Architecture is shifting toward a non-static and non-physical form of experience, and can be considered as a transdisciplinary medium that merges the worlds of fabrication, gaming and media design.
VISIONWORLDS: Architecture of Immersion and Experience in Extended Reality, will convene the brightest minds from the arts, architecture and the tech industry, to examine environmental applications of media, VR/AR, sensor interaction and robotic transformation of architectural spaces. In doing so, we'll explore the potential of extended reality to formulate a reformed agenda for the role of digital in the contemporary practice of architecture.
This is the final symposium in the 2017-18 UCLA Architecture and Urban Design IDEAS Lecture Series. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Register now to attend!
